This website allows users to view reports for the state, individual counties, and groups of counties regarding estimates for the supply of and demand for early learning and care programs for children age 0-5 in California. Most reports are available by individual age cohort.

Data Sources
The data for these estimates have been compiled from multiple sources, including the California Department of Education, California Department of Social Services, the American Community Survey Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) data (U.S. Census Bureau), and an AIR-administered survey of Head Start/Early Head Start grantees. Currently, reports are available for 2017.
Disclaimer
Estimates of the population included on this website primarily come from American Community Survey (ACS) Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) data. All estimates presented on this website use ACS PUMS 5-year estimates because these data are generally more reliable (e.g., smaller margins of error) than 1-year estimates, especially for small counties. However, 5-year estimates are less precise in terms of estimating for a specific year because they represent an average across multiple years, over which time period populations could have changed. In general, for estimates presented on this website, the larger the true population size is of a county, the larger the sample size is in the ACS, and therefore the smaller the margins of error. This means that the margins of error are likely larger for counties with small populations (e.g., Alpine, Inyo, Modoc); therefore, the estimates are less reliable for these counties than for counties with larger populations (e.g., Los Angeles, San Francisco). Please note that estimates may be the least precise for the following counties, which are a part of multi-county Public Use Microdata Areas (PUMAs): Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Inyo, Lake, Lassen, Mariposa, Mendocino, Modoc, Mono, Nevada, Plumas, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne, and Yuba.
